Procedure Details

This woman in her early 40s visited Dr. Chaffoo in his San Diego plastic surgery office because she wanted to improve the contours of her breasts. She talked with Dr. Chaffoo about what could be done to make her breasts look more shapely and youthful. He told her that many women are unhappy with the effects of weight change, age, and childbirth on their breasts. After listening to the woman's concerns and performing a physical examination, Dr. Chaffoo recommended a La Jolla breast enlargement and breast lift (mastopexy). The patient asked for details about the different implant types available. Many of Dr. Chaffoo's patients choose the new generation of silicone gel breast implants because they look and feel more like natural breast tissue. He also offers saline implants for women who do not want silicone, and for women between the ages of 18 and 22. Silicone implants have not yet been approved for initial (primary) augmentation procedures for women in this age range. The patient went from a B to a C cup with smooth round 375cc silicone gel breast implants placed under the chest muscle. The incision for the lift was a vertical mastopexy around the areola and extending down to the breast fold. Dr. Chaffoo also will perform standard mastopexy when needed though prefers vertical mastopexy to minimize scarring. After this San Diego patient underwent breast enlargement and breast lift, she was very pleased with her fuller, firmer, and shapelier breasts.
