You may have inherited a flat butt or developed one through age or weight loss, but that doesn't mean you have to stay that way. A Brazilian butt lift (also known as BBL or buttocks augmentation surgery) takes fat from where you don't want it (stomach, hops, thighs, and more) and carefully adds it to the butt for a natural-looking increase in volume and shape. Modern beauty standards have made the full, curvaceous butts seen on the beaches of Brazil, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and the cast of Keeping Up with The Kardashians more popular. With the Brazilian butt lift, you can get rid of unwanted fat to re-shape and contour your body to meet your goals. Triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Chaffoo performs Brazilian butt lift surgery at La Jolla Plastic Surgery in the San Diego, CA area to help patients look great in their swimsuits on the beaches of Southern California or a stunning, form-fitting dress. Schedule a consultation to learn more about Brazilian butt lift surgery, and how it can improve your confidence.

Before Surgery

At your initial consultation, Dr. Chaffoo will take the time to listen to your concerns and goals before performing a physical examination to determine your treatment options. Dr. Chaffoo will talk about the best fat donor sites and how the procedure will be performed, as well as going over potential risks and your recovery timeline. It can help Dr. Chaffoo if you bring photos of what you want to help him visualize your goals.

Surgical Technique

Brazilian butt lift surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure at an accredited surgical facility with the patient under general anesthesia. First, Dr. Chaffoo will use liposuction to remove fat from the discussed areas of the body and close the incisions. The removed fat will be processed, purified, and prepared for injection into the butt. Dr. Chaffoo will carefully make small injections of fat throughout the butt to evenly add shape and volume until your goals are reached. The injection sites are cleaned and bandaged before you are placed in a compression garment and sent to post-operative recovery.

You should rest as much as possible after your Brazilian butt lift surgery, while keeping pressure off your buttocks area by laying on your stomach or side. You will be put in a compression garment after your surgery to encourage healing and keep the injected fat in place. You may need about 2 weeks of rest before returning to work and normal activities and a pillow should be placed under the butt whenever you are sitting. You should avoid exercise and strenuous activity for 8 – 10 weeks after surgery or until you are cleared by Dr. Chaffoo.

Your butt may appear larger than you want it after surgery because of swelling and inflammation from the surgery for around 3 – 6 months. Dr. Chaffoo typically adds more fat to account for the fat that will be reabsorbed or eliminated by the body so your final results meet your goals. To maintain your results, it is important to maintain a healthy, stable weight since the fat added to the butt can become larger or smaller with significant weight fluctuations.

Expected Costs

A Brazilian butt lift surgery typically costs between $10,000 – $15,000 to cover the liposuction and the re-injection of fat. Dr. Chaffoo will discuss more personalized pricing after learning your goals and creating a treatment plan. Our office can also help you with medical financing to make your dream butt more affordable.

Conditions Treated?

A Brazilian butt lift can be a great choice if you have:

  • Flat or sagging buttocks
  • Loose skin
  • Butt asymmetry
  • Unbalanced body proportions
  • Trouble filling out clothing

Combining Treatments?

A Brazilian butt lift already combines liposuction and a fat transfer, but you may add other plastic surgeries, like additional areas of liposuction or a body lift (for the arms, stomach, thighs, butt, or other) to remove excess skin. Tell Dr. Chaffoo all your concerns and wants during your initial consultation so he can create a treatment plan that will achieve your cosmetic goals.

Potential Risks?

Since a BBL uses fat from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reactions to a foreign material after the surgery. However, a Brazilian butt lift is a surgery, so it shares the same risks as any surgical procedures, including infection, bleeding, and a reaction to anesthesia. By choosing a highly-qualified plastic surgeon like Dr. Chaffoo, disclosing your full medical history, plus following all pre- and post-surgical instructions you will minimize your chance of complications.

Gaining Weight Before?

If you do not have enough extra fat on your body to get the amount of volume and shape you want, you may be a better candidate for butt augmentation using silicone implants. It is never advised to purposely become overweight or obese since this can lead to health problems. Schedule a consultation for a Brazilian butt lift before gaining any weight, since many patients will have more excess fat than they think.

Nonsurgical Alternatives?

When researching Brazilian butt lifts and buttocks augmentation, you may find ads for pills, creams, and lotions that will claim to naturally increase the volume of your butt. Products like Dime Curves, Gluteboost, and Brazil Butt sound too good to be true because they are. It may sound like a cheaper alternative to BBL, but plastic surgeons recommend that you save your money and invest in a reputable plastic surgeon for real results.
