Overview

Juvéderm Voluma XC is one of the most recent fillers added to our selection of anti-aging treatments at La Jolla Plastic Surgery in San Diego, CA. Voluma XC treats lost volume in the cheeks, which is one of the first and most noticeable signs of aging. Using hyaluronic acid, Juvéderm Voluma XC is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add volume to cheeks that have lost their plumpness due to the aging process. Voluma XC is thicker than other fillers, and is injected deeper than other products, giving the mid-face a lifted appearance. It has been clinically shown to last up to 2 years. Voluma injections by triple board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Richard Chaffoo, can create a rounder, more youthful-looking profile while also adding a discreetly lifted appearance that can improve the whole face.

Procedure Technique

After a thorough consultation, the areas of the face that will receive Voluma injections will be cleaned and marked. In some cases, a numbing cream will be put on the face to minimize discomfort, which should begin to work in a few seconds. Once the patient is ready, the doctor will carefully inject Voluma into the cheeks until the patient's aesthetic goals are achieved. An ice pack can be placed on the cheeks after the Voluma treatment to minimize redness and swelling, but patients should be able to return to their normal activities.

Voluma FAQs

How Many Treatments?

Most patients will get great results after their first Voluma treatment, which last an average of 2 years. It can be helpful to get a touch-up injection 1 month after the first treatment to further enhance results and increase the length of the results. During your consultation, your doctor will create your unique treatment plan with careful instructions on follow-up appointments.

Side Effects?

Most Voluma patients experience minor, temporary side effects like tenderness, swelling, redness, pain, and itching. These side effects typically only last 2 – 4 weeks after the injections and can be minimized by avoiding sun exposure and strenuous activity for at least 24 hours. Applying ice packs to the treated area also helps with redness, swelling, and pain. Contact our office if you are concerned about any side effects that appear after your treatment.

Best Uses?

Injectable dermal fillers, like Voluma can fill in wrinkles and add volume from beneath the skin, adding soft, youthful-looking plumpness. Voluma can also be used to fill in depressed areas such as the cheeks and temples.
